My daughter is going to be two in a couple weeks and I seriously can’t believe it. Before my husband and I had kids, we always thought it was weird when people would talk about how they couldn’t believe that their child was growing up. Like, obviously they are growing up. It’s been another year and they are a year older. Duh. Also, her first year pictures were the cutest ever! You can see some of them here!
But now that I’m a parent, I totally understand. Of course I realize that it’s been a year since her last birthday when she turned one, but it doesn’t seem like she should be turning two. I can remember being pregnant with her like it was last month. I remember giving birth to her like it was last week. And I remember all her milestones like it was yesterday. So while I know that it’s been two years since she entered this world, it just hard for me to believe that she’s growing up so fast.
DIY Unicorn Gift Bags
We decided on a unicorn party — and by we I mean me. I mean who wouldn’t want a unicorn party, they’re so magical and colorful, and just make everything and everyone happy. And I’m pretty sure, a little bit, that Brooklyn would pick a unicorn party too.
I’ve been looking at inspiration for unicorn parties for a while, and knew I wanted to make something fun. I came across some gift bags and thought that I could totally make some diy unicorn gift bags!
I made these DIY unicorn gift bags completely with American Greeting’s products. I literally went to the American Greetings aisle at Meijer and everything I needed was right there. They have everything I could need for a summer birthday party!
I also couldn’t help but look at all the cute birthday cards! There was the cutest display every with these three glittery cards. Can you tell I like glitter? We have a couple other summer birthday parties to get to this summer so I ended up getting several cards. They are so adorable and I know we will use them this summer so I figured, why not? I do all my grocery shopping at meijer, so I might start stocking up on cards. We always forget about cards until the last minute and end up making a special trip to the store on our way to the party. By keeping a stock of cards I know I will have one that works and won’t have to make a special trip!
I was originally wondering if there was a glitter card I could use for the unicorn horn. In the end I decided I couldn’t cut up the cute cards so I just made my own unicorn horn.
This tutorial is for 6 gift bags. If you want to make more, make sure you pick up extra items!
Items you will need:
6 – American Greetings white gifts bags
2 – American Greetings white gift bag (for the ears and horn)
1 – American Greetings pink gift bag for the ears
2 – American Greetings packages of tissue paper
6 – American Greetings ribbons or bows
1 – glue stick
1. Trace and cut – Trace and cut out 12 ears from the white gift bags for the outer ear. Then trace and cut out 12 smaller ears for the inner ear. Trace and cut out 6 unicorn horns. (You can add glitter to the ears or use a glitter paper)
2. Glue the pink smaller ear on top of the white ear. Then fold each of the corners and glue them down.
3. Draw eyes on all the bags
4. Glue the ears and the horn on the bag. Put on the ribbon on for the unicorn mane.
5. Put in your gift bag goodies and top it with tissue paper
And that’s it! All your guests will love taking home these gift bags, maybe even more than what’s in them!
Do you have a summer party coming up and could use some party supplies? Maybe you just want to stock up on cards so you don’t have to make a special trip to the store! Either way, make sure to stop at Meijer and check out the American Greeting’s aisle. They have everything you need and more to make your party magical, too!
